Analyzing opioid-sparing anesthesia techniques

I’m curious about the effectiveness of opioid-sparing techniques in anesthesia practice… With data indicating lower postoperative pain levels and decreased opioid consumption in certain populations, have any of you implemented these strategies successfully in your clinical settings? I’d love to hear what protocols you’ve adopted and the outcomes you’ve observed.

I’ve found that using regional anesthesia techniques can really drop opioid requirements in our patients — it’s like swapping a chainsaw for a scalpel — much finer control! Have you tried any specific blocks that worked well?

I’ve had success with multimodal analgesia, incorporating both gabapentinoids and ketorolac alongside regional techniques. While it’s been effective in reducing opioid consumption, I’ve noticed the need for careful patient selection to avoid any adverse reactions. Have you experimented with other adjuncts?

I totally agree, regional techniques can feel like having your cake and eating it too! I’ve also started adding dexmedetomidine to my mixes, which seems to extend analgesia without the opioid bump. Have you considered it, @kpatel2023?
